Hullooo out there,
Well, I've had a hectic fall and winter season and as a consequence I've not posted anything new since last August. But, we are headed to Ireland this coming June. We will be heading for nearly a month. I've rented a studio apartment in the tiny village of Cooraclare in County Clare for 600 euro. I missed a place on a farm that was going for 150 euro a week by "just that much." Oh well...we will be renting a car to get around. We are planning to of course see the some of the highlights of the western part of Ireland and possible stay overnight in B&Bs when we drive to the southern coast around County Cork and southwestern coast of County Kerry.
An alternative plan is to just do daytrips to those areas and save overnighters to areas in the interior like County Roscommon. These areas are a lot less touristy and we greatly prefer the road less traveled. One of our planned destinations for an overnighters is Ross Castle B&B because it is reputed to be haunted. A haunted castle...in Ireland...it can't be any cooler than that.
But...then there is the volcano eruption that is ongoing. I bought travel insurance. I went to squaremouth.com to get comparative rates and coverage. I am also checking the volcano activity at this website: volcanolive.com to keep track of daily activity. Volcano activity is unpredictable and can go on for months so this is going to be a daily monitoring situation. Apparently 100,000 flights are in backlog and airlines are busily trying to get back on schedule. We will be flying into Shannon airport so I am visiting there website on a daily basis as well. Our fingers are crossed.
By the way, I asked for discounts at the places I checked for lodging. The economy is tanking in Portugal, Ireland, Italy,Greece, and Spain. I had immediate (often within two hours) reponses to my e-mail inquiries. Don't be shy about asking.
