When the hands and arms are correctly positioned the body will be too, and this allows you to become a much better skier. Yes, the arms are that important. When your arms are held out in front of your body, wide apart, and with elbows high, it becomes much easier to recover when the terrain bumps you out of position, thus saving what could be a nasty fall or the need to stop your run.
